This was my use case - record a class / training using OBS like a DVR recording TV show while I work on something else. (you will still have audio from that lecture playing - unless you mix it differently into OBS using something like Voicemeeter Banana) If you want you can "record" what's happening on that screen in full resolution in OBS using the same "scene" even if you minimize the OBS windows and do something else on your home desktop. You can resize / reposition / minimize the OBS projector floating window as you need to see what's happening on that screen. You can move windows or mouse into that new screen just like a physical screen (but you would need visual feedback of what's happening on that screen - for which you use the OBS projector window) You can adjust the logical position of the second screen using Windows Display Settings just like you would any physical external monitor. (You can now minimize the main OBS window) Right-click on this scene and select "Windowed Projector (Scene)" option. Open OBS and setup a scene with "Display Capture" pointing to Display 2 optional: use settings in this HTML5 viewer client to adjust the resolution of the viryual second screen optional: You can create a bookmark to " " (replace with your local IP) to open this quickly any time 3B.

Use the HTML5 viewer client of SpaceDesk: open a browser window, go to, and enter your local IP address and connect. " Spacedesk" is a very decent solution to this problem, paired with OBS (even to simply "monitor" the virtual screen - even if not actually recording)

If this works as advertised I am wondering if it can be paired with another utility that can simply "mirror" that screen into a small floating window on regular desktop so we can monitor that screen when needed. Here is a possible solution for this use case of fake virtual monitor: Even this - which only partially goes towards my use case - seems to be not so easy. Some people seem to have a need for a fake second monitor without needing to actually see or access its contents with a mouse. But I am looking for a lightweight software solution that doesn't require a physical monitor and also can be used even when you are travelling with your laptop. #2 can be easily accomplished when using a physical second monitor connected using HDMI cable and extending (instead of mirroring) the desktop. I would like to try something like putting a MS Teams or Webex or GoToWebinar window on that screen and have OBS record that second screen, while I continue doing my work on my desktop. I would like to be able to view it as a floating picture-in-picture (PIP) display in a small window on top - on the existing desktop. Is there a tool that presents a virtual second monitor to Windows 10 so that I can (extend my desktop to that screen and) move some windows to it?
